Ansel in Color
Yellow Mountain, Glacier National Park, Montana, 1948
“I have yet to see — much less produce — a color photograph that fulfills my concepts of the objectives of art.”
- Ansel Adams

An excellent article by TIME online on the color photography of Ansel Adams – the black and white master, in color.

damn fine
Reminders of damn fine graphic design. Ran across the above image while updating the RSPCTdesign website.
Text + Images + knowledge and a desire to work. Look for the newly updated site in the coming days.

I have a damn good collection of images and information to post on the above image. Stencil cut typographical experimentation. Need to get some approval before posting more.
Check out a past teaser in the mean time. > JUST CONDENSE IT

Learn them and get to accept them kids.
Finished up with all the extras from the feature film Helvetica. History of the conversion of hand designed fonts to digital pixel plunders.

a reference to mass
Critical Mass that is. Added up two posters for a critical mass event last year. More literal and less event.

Found some amazing images, then upon digging found the most amazing representation of the berkley pit / Butte Montana. Photographs created by David Maisel, entitled the Mining Project. Composition, color, and the sheer altitude and tilt it would take to create those images. Then you have to wonder and realize why these colors are created. Some expressions of nature, others scars on the land.

Received 8 rolls of film back from being processed, courtesy Citizen Photo of Portland OR. Shot, shipped, processed, and scanned one x one. Images dating back to my time in PDX to july 4th festivites and a first attempt to capture Glacier Nat’l Park at night. Above are some multi-image builds / MIBs. A project the I have been working on and a great way to get large images even larger. Looking to build 48″ + prints consisting of landscapes both day and night.

WPA x 35,000

Researching for a client in reference to the beautiful art created for the promotion of America and the national park systems. I was led to Ranger Doug and their archive of posters created for the WPA between 1938 – 1941.
- – - – - – - – - – -
Quoted - “Between 1935 and 1943 the WPA’s Federal Art Project printed over two million posters in 35,000 different designs to stir the public’s imagination for education, theater, health, safety, and travel. Due to their fragile nature only two thousand posters have survived to this day; less than one tenth of one percent! These rare images were rescued and restored from black and white photos beginning in 1993 by Ranger Doug.”

Lets get a program like this going again. Think the health care situation could have gone a little smoother, with some quality visuals, instead of open interpretation. Then again, always a high rate of false advertising.
