Received 8 rolls of film back from being processed, courtesy Citizen Photo of Portland OR. Shot, shipped, processed, and scanned one x one. Images dating back to my time in PDX to july 4th festivites and a first attempt to capture Glacier Nat’l Park at night. Above are some multi-image builds / MIBs. A project the I have been working on and a great way to get large images even larger. Looking to build 48″ +  prints consisting of landscapes both day and night.

Back to 100

pdx409_steelbrdg-web

And round two comes out clean. I was able to get out and shoot a couple rolls of Kodak 100vs. I have not used this in quite awhile, but it seems to work better with the lights. Tonight was a nice ride to north Portland and back. Via a few overlooks and interstate.

found one, lost one

pdx209_hthn-brg01-prv1

After a night of riding Memphis taking night shots of the city, almost two years ago. I managed to loose a roll of film, some great compositions. Well the missing roll of film showed up yesterday. Unfortunately, it was double exposed onto a roll that I shot recently in Portland. Not even sure how that one happened. Loose a roll of exposed film. Find it two years later, and then shoot it again. I’m all for adding to my 2XPOSURE series, but this one caught me off guard. A couple off good mistakes, and a lesson learned. I’m out for the next couple of nights trying to re-shoot a few compositions and drop my aperture.

Stuck in Cincinnati :: Trying to keep up with Ashley, jet setting across the world, working on the line production. After snow delayed leaving Bozeman, it’s Cincinnati to JFK, to Dubai, and on to India. From spring snow to the hottest place on earth for two weeks. Hurry up.

DETAILS :: aside from the being overexposed due to the double exposure, and sitting for two years. The shot above shows some geese at the banks of the Hawthorn Bridge in Portland. Neon lights from Beale street in Memphis can be see overlapping in some detail.

Get archived

After finding some old shots of the OBEY campaign in NYC, I sent them on to share. Kind folks over at the HQ were nice enough to share the photos with the world. Posting one up on the permanent archive. Enjoy the link, and the rest of the photos up there.

NYC 05

obey1-nyc1

Came across some images from a trip to NYC back in 05. Wandering the galleries during the day and the streets at night. I was able to create a good series of night images in the 7days we were there. The shown are some OBEY images that I came across. I have to say before this trip I had only seen and heard little of the OBEY campaign. Not much up in Montana. One of those posters happened to be the Johnny Cash poster for the release of “Walk the Line.” Damn if I didnt try to take some shreads of that poster. The above shot was taken through traffic, and exposed for more time than it took to post the sticker. Good luck with the legal system of Boston Shepard.

build. break. repeat.

Traveling the south you can still see remnants and hardships of the civil war to the seperation of civil liberties in downtown Memphis. The recording of events both during and after have best been preserved and passed on through photography. The rough edges and failing facades of Detroit MI have pushed themselves to be almost post-apocalyptic. My dream would be to get dropped in the middle of this city with no agenda, limit of images, or fear of interaction. Seems some great photographers by the names of Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre have done just this, and produced some amazing images. Causing you to wonder just how more can deteriorate?

Record it for history and rebuild.

The shown images are from the neglected historic Uptown of Butte MT and back allies of Memphis TN

a night on the road

We have some weather rolling in, supposidly bringing snow. So I will be on the road photographing for the afternoon, with a final destination of Butte Montana. Trying to get a good collection of the uptown district and mining remains. The posted shot was from a trip last october through paradise valley and Clyde Park Montana.

Check NASA’s photographs of the Berkley Pit from above. Dig Deep kids.

did i miss banksy

Searching some contributing wordpress folks, when one post leads me to the infamous BANKSY website. Always a fresh view on life, for better or worse. I got to searching some past images, when a three story rat appears on the side of a building. Complete with, probably the largest replication of Milton Glasers I heart NY. The graffiti below brings me back as I realize “Hell i’ve been there” Like right under the thing in the dark of night back in 2005. Walking around SOHO with Jeske and Tril, taking pictures. How did we miss that?

From the looks of the tag overlays, I am guessing this installation was alittle more recent than 2005. Thought I was pretty observant too. Keep yer heads up kids. The photos below show the BANKSY in question and the shots I took that night. Some natural light long exposure images on film. Little self-portrait in the second shot.

Thanks to she walks softly for helping me stumble upon that correlation.

hit the road

With the convenience of a small town and a quick bike, gas prices haven’t caused too much concern here. I do feel for those manditory commuters. But, following the DDC Fall tour and making preperations for my winter cross country trek has me hoping the prices stay somewhat sane. Draplin made it through the traffic jam we call Yellowstone national park, and updated the world on the Crazy Horse Monument.

With Yellowstone in mind and less than two weeks before I hear back on the CDS Book Project. Thought I would post up some night images from Yellowstone. Taken on a quick night trip from Bozeman to the Park under a partial full moon. Waiting hours for the moonlight to hit lower falls. Only to reach 3am and realize the earths rotation was about 50ft off full-filling my dream. Packed up the grear and drove to old faithful. First time in the park I never saw a car or animal. Quiet, like erie quiet.

A midnight tour of Yellowstone National Park under the full moon is a manditory people. Highly recommended. Even checked with the officials. “What is open to the public during the day, is open to the public at night. Just don’t go off trail, please. And explain to me what you are trying to photograph at night ?”

The featured photographs are from the the mentioned night back in June. First of the two is of the canyon walls and the night sky. A heads turn from Lower Falls in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The second image shows the erupting old faithful at 5am. Not a soul to witness but myself and distant buffalo, peaceful, quiet, and cold. How it should be.
